Invalid signatures
District court of Irkutsk decided to cancel registration of Anton Romanov as a candidate for the mayor’s job in the coming municipal elections. The court identified that 20% of signatures in favor of the candidate were invalid. Moreover, most of the signatures were collected by social workers when they delivered pensions to elderly people. The Russian law is straightforward about collecting signatures for the candidates and prohibits any such methods.
Deputy’s assault
Local political scandal occurred in a minor town of Zabaikalsky Region. City deputies held a regular meeting on January 15, 2010, when one of the deputies threw a bottle of water into his opponent inflicting closed fracture of a rib. Last week a criminal case was opened against the attacking deputy.
Liberal wing
Investigation committee of the prosecutor service of Buryatia started a criminal case against Igor Bobkov, leader of the Republic’s division of Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. There is suspicion that this deputy falsified registration documents for the candidates put forward by the party for the coming municipal elections.
