International Forum
14th International Scientific and Industrial Forum “Russia United” took place in Nizhny Novgorod last week. The event attracted 3 thousand participants from 46 regions of Russia and 22 countries.
The Forum was subdivided into Congress and Exhibition Parts. Congress meetings were devoted to five priorities in the country’s development suggested by the President of Russia: Innovations, Investments, Intellect, Institute and Infrastructure.
Special meetings involving Minister of Economic Development of Russia Elvira Nabiullina and energy department director Sergey Mikhailov dwelt upon partnership programs between the state and private businesses, nanotechnologies, renewable energy sources and energy saving.
Mayor’s elections
Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Vadim Bulavinov keeps demonstrating disagreement with his political party – he is officially against the elimination of people’s elections of the city mayor.
Whereas United Russia deputies in the City Duma suggest replacing it by closed elections among City Duma deputies. Although 80% of citizens of Nizhny Novgorod are also against the imposed system, it is yet very likely to be introduced. At least the third hearing of the required City Charter amendment is appointed for the next week.
Bridge
Regional governor Valery Shantsev checked out the state of readiness of an automobile road on a bridge over the river Oka. This multifunctional bridge will be used both by automobiles and subway trains. The road part of the bridge will officially be commissioned to work on November 4. Subway part will be ready by the end of 2011.
The governor also inspected and opened a newly constructed sports complex in Balakhna, which was constructed with the money from the federal, regional and municipal budgets.
