Plasma furnace
Kuzbass celebrated the Day of Metallurgist on July 17, 2009. During the celebration the first plasma furnace in Russia was launched at Siberian Mining and Metallurgical Company.
“When ferrous alloys production reaches its full capacity Kuzbass will be able to stop importing manganese iron from other regions of Russia”, governor Aman Tuleev officially declared. “It will help reduce prime cost of our metal, which is a big competitive advantage”.
Introduction of all three plasma furnaces into operation will also create additional jobs.
Altai’s SEZ in epicenter
Special economic zone Turquoise Katun, a popular tourist destination, became the center of a natural disaster. A strong waterspout rode down the river Katun bringing pouring rain and hail 10 cm in diameter. Waterspout width reached 200 meters. There are no human losses, but a lot of material damage was inflicted.
Federal highway
Republic of Altai announced receiving approval for the project of reconstruction of a federal highway M-52 Chuisky Highway. The federal budget will allot 4.42 billion rubles for the works.
M-52 is a federal highway connecting Novosibirsk and Tashanta, Altai, with total length of 953 kilometers. This is the trunk road running across three regions – Novosibirsk Region, Altai Region and Republic of Altai.
Borderline
The first town for the federal frontier officers has been opened in Novosibirsk Region on the border with Kazakhstan. The town will become home to over 70 families of the military men who serve there. The new complex costs 350 million rubles and includes an administrative building, sports center, shooting range, utility rooms, garage, systems of autonomous sustainment, video control and security. By the end of 2009 the second borderline town will be opened in the region.
Doctors’ case in Omsk
Investigation commission of the Russian Prosecution in Omsk Region decided not to start a criminal case against doctors of a sports complex Avangard, who were suspected in involvement into the death of a hockey player Aleksey Cherepanov. The young men died of a chronic myocarditis which had not been properly diagnosed.
It was not possible to identify the disease. X-rays of the heart showed enlargement of a heart shadow typical of all sportsmen. Investigation found out that the player also took medications which were not prescribed by the doctors.
Mayor's found
Mayor of Minusinsk Anatoly Kekin’s body was discovered in Krasnoyarsk Region. The mayor drowned on June 27, 2009 while fishing on a boat.
